Maite Oliveira was born in Brazil and moved to England in 1991. She was among the first to start teaching and performing Brazilian Samba dance in the UK. She has taught Samba in many places, including the London School of Samba from 1994 - 1999, the Paraiso School of Samba from 2002 – 2023, and many school projects around London, helping promote Brazilian culture in the UK. Many UK professional Samba dancers and teachers have learnt and studied Samba with Maite. Her first Notting Hill Carnival was in 1992; from then, she paraded non-stop yearly. She has paraded in the Rio Carnaval in Brazil with Estácio de Sá, Vizinha Faladeira and Mangueira, all well-renowned Schools of Samba. She truly believes that Brazilian Samba is a culture of inclusion and helps people with physical and mental health.
