Mestre Guilherme Oliveira and Mestre Gustavo Oliveira are among the most respected percussion leaders in Brazilian Carnival today.
Born and raised on Rua Silva Teles, the street where the quadra of Acadêmicos do Salgueiro is located, the brothers grew up immersed in samba culture from an early age. Their musical journey began at the renowned Aprendizes do Salgueiro, where they developed their passion for percussion and learned the traditions that would later define their careers.
Through dedication, talent and a deep commitment to preserving samba’s roots, they rose through the ranks to become the leaders of the legendary Bateria Furiosa.
Since 2019, Guilherme and Gustavo have commanded the iconic Bateria Furiosa of Salgueiro, one of the most celebrated drum sections in Rio de Janeiro’s Carnival.
Under their leadership, the bateria has maintained its reputation for excellence, consistently achieving top scores and captivating audiences with its precision, power and unmistakable swing.
Known for combining technical mastery with an authentic “raiz” approach to samba, the brothers have also represented Salgueiro internationally through cultural exchange projects and performances across Europe and South America, helping to spread the traditions of Rio’s samba schools around the world.
Império da Rainha is honoured to have worked in partnership with Mestre Guilherme and Mestre Gustavo for the past three years. Through workshops, rehearsals, performances and cultural exchanges, they have played an important role in strengthening the connection between London and Rio de Janeiro’s samba communities.
Their ongoing support has helped inspire our ritmistas, develop the musical standards of Bateria Tropa Trovão, and reinforce our commitment to presenting authentic Brazilian samba culture in the United Kingdom.

Join Mestre Guilherme and Mestre Gustavo, leaders of Salgueiro’s legendary Bateria Furiosa, for two exclusive samba percussion workshops in London. This is a rare opportunity to learn directly from two of Rio de Janeiro Carnaval’s most respected percussion masters and experience the energy, technique and tradition that have made Bateria Furiosa famous worldwide.
The first workshop takes place on
Saturday 4th July, from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM
at Chats Palace (42–44 Brooksby’s Walk, London E9 6DF).
The second workshop takes place on
Sunday 5th July, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
at the Saw Swee Hock Centre,
London School of Economics
(6th Floor Studio), followed by
an optional REHEARSAL from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM
alongside members of Império da Rainha’s Bateria Tropa Trovão.
